The Stone Tree and Laguna Colorada

We drove to the Stone Tree, which is a single rock which has had its base eroded away, leaving it looking like a tree. It's interesting and apparently a Bolivian icon, but I actually preferred the other nearby rocks. No one pays too much attention to them, so you can walk around the corner and feel like you're the only person on the planet.

The last stop of the day was Laguna Colorada. It's a lake you've probably seen in nature documentaries. Bright red and covered in flamingos.

There were lots of flamingos. We took lots and lots of photos. I also discovered flamingos don't make good parents, I must have counted six or seven eggs abandoned along the edge of the lake.

That night we stayed in a hostel at 4500m, the highest night of our trip. It was not a comfortable night. Everybody snored or wheezed, which is apparently a side effect of the altitude. Wonderfully clear night sky though, well, not at first, but later it was.
