Cesky Kromlov

    We stopped in at Cesky Kromlov on the way to Vienna after we had left Prague. It is a small town in the Czech Republic. Its best known for its castle which sits high on an outcrop overlooking a bend in the Vltava River.

    The town itself had come close to falling into disrepair prior to 1989, but since it has been declared a world heritage site. The town suffers from floods of the Vltava, but when we went there, most of the buildings had been restored, however a few still showed signs of neglect.

    The castle itself is impressive. Its perched on top of a rock outcrop with a multi-story bridge across a deep gap which leads to a huge formal garden. We were told the bridge was erected so the Dutchess of the castle would not have to use any stairs to go walking in the garden.
