Budapest

    Budapest is made up of Buda on one side of the Danube and Pest on the other. When we were there, the Danube was in full flood, which was quite impressive, but threw a spanner in the works of the people taking the boat trips.

    The Parliment was interesting. Hungary use to have two houses of parliment, but one was disbanded after World War II, so there is only one chamber in use. The actual building was built in the late 19th century. They held a competition to come up with the plans and liked some of them so much, they built three houses of parliment. One they use as a parliment and two others.

    We also took a trip out to a town on the Danube Bend. I really liked it. Sure, parts were a tourist trip, but get behind the plethera of craft shops and you can get a feel for the place. Little laneways and nooks and crannies to poke about in.
