Return to Austria

The trip finished back in Vienna, we arrived late in the afternoon and then headed off to a concert in the Kursalon. Quite tourist orientated, but enjoyable and quite awe inspiring when you stopped to think about the other people who had both performed and listened in the same room.

The following day we visited Schonbrunn Palace. This place was amazing, it was the Hasburg's place in the country. A mere 1400 rooms, massive formal gardens, huge forests for hunting; just you average summer holiday house. After the palace, we visited the treasury at the Hofbug Palace. That contains some of the stuff which was left by the Habsburgs.

When the Habsburgs were exiled out of Austria, they were stripped of all their wealth, but they were allowed to keep their personal jewelry, which was a scarily large amount of money. The amount of wealth and power they had is almost scary.

The afternoon was spent up in the mountains above Vienna, which offer some lovely views of the city before an evening at the Marchfelderhof restaurant. The Marchfelderhof is a bizarre place, I suspect as an individual its a lot more interesting (and pricy) than as a group, but certainly memorable.
